The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is set to impose a 30-hour water cut across pockets of South and Central Mumbai, starting May 5, to commission a new water channel from Amar Mahal. According to BMC, water supply will be suspended in F/North (Matunga, Sion, Wadala), F/South (Parel, Sewri), L ward (Kurla, Saki Naki), M/East (Govandi, Mankhurd), M/West (Chembur) and N ward (Ghatkopar, Vidyavihar) from 10 am on May 5 till 4 pm on May 6. From May, the civic body will begin work to commission a new water tunnel. The tunnel will run from Amar Mahal to Pratiksha Nagar in Wadala, connecting to Parel, the Trombay reservoir, and, further up, the Turbhe high-level reservoir. Under the project, a 1,800-mm-diameter tunnel will be constructed, along with related supporting works. To facilitate work, BMC will close the water supply through the existing tunnels at the Turbhe high-level and low-level reservoirs.…
