1907 house. Just had a full tear-off/redeck with new OSB, drip edge, ridge vent, and 6” gutters. From inside the attic I can now see a continuous strip of daylight along the entire eave and can see the top/back side of the gutter from the attic. The gap occurs inside of the gutter. Before the reroof I couldn’t see any of this light, but they removed 5 layers of roofing, including the original cedar shake, during the tear-off. No signs of leaks or water staining so far. Is this a normal old-house/open-eave detail, or should there be a filler board/closure behind the gutter? My concerns are ice dams/water backup in winter and bees, bats, mice, or other pests getting into the attic. Photos attached. submitted by /u/NATTYBOYZ [link] [comments]
