Spokane, Pasco among best places to retire, Forbes says

Seattle Times business reporter

Living in the Seattle area and want to retire? Forbes says you’re better off driving to the other side of the state.

Once again, the sunny cities of Spokane and Pasco are among Forbes’ 25 best places to retire in the country in 2026.

Both cities are highlighted for their lack of a state income tax and healthcare access. But their affordability is really what makes them stand out, according to Forbes.

With homes less than half the price of most Seattle-area homes and around $200,000 less than the statewide median price, retirees can get a lot more house for their buck. The average home value in Spokane is $395,000, while it’s $418,000 in Pasco, according to Forbes. (Those figures line up with Zillow data.)

The cost of living in both areas is near the national average, with Spokane slightly above and Pasco slightly below.
