After Sean Payton once coached his father, Dasan McCullough ‘really excited’ to join Broncos

The Broncos at one point had 4 hours between picks on the final day of the NFL draft last month, so that was plenty of time for Sean Payton and Deland McCullough to text back and forth. Payton was offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Miami of Ohio from 1994-95, when McCullough was a star running back at the school. He later was Philadelphia’s quarterbacks coach in 1997, when McCullough had a brief stint with the Eagles. On April 25, the final day of the draft, Denver was eyeing McCullough’s son Dasan, an outside linebacker from Nebraska. So what was the Broncos head coach texting at the time about Dasan? “He said, ‘We love this guy,’’’ said Deland, now the running backs coach at Oklahoma.
