The members of Bone Thugs-n-Harmony were in their late teens when their friend Wally was killed. It was April 27, 1993, and Bizzy Bone, Krayzie Bone, Flesh-n-Bone, Layzie Bone, and Wish Bone poured their grief into music, penning what would eventually become the Cleveland group’s 1996 mega hit “Tha Crossroads” (though Flesh doesn’t rap on it). The version included on the E. 1999 Eternal album was a remix of the original track, written years earlier, and was inspired by a devastating string of deaths in their close-knit circle, including Ruthless Records founder and N.W.A gangsta rap pioneer Eazy-E.  Unbeknownst to Bone Thugs, who were on the road touring nonstop without cell phones or the internet, the song was exploding all over the country. Not only was it certified double platinum mere months after its release, it also became the highest-debuting rap single, landing at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. It climbed to No. 1 the following week and remained there for eight consecutive weeks.…
