Published 12:30 pm Friday, May 29, 2026 EUGENE — On the morning of the opening day of the Class 5A track and field state championships at Hayward Field, two Summit athletes claimed state titles. Junior Bjorn Blankenship won the boys 3,000-meter run and senior Anna Millikan won the girls javelin. In the days leading up to state, Blankenship mapped out just how he wanted the race to unfold. With a time of 8 minutes, 12.87 seconds after seven-and-a-half laps around the track, the race went even better than he pictured. It’s the fastest 3,000 time in the state this year out of all classifications. “I’ve been visualizing this race for a couple of days now,” Blankenship said. “I could not have imagined a more perfect race than that.
