When cycling fans at grand tour events crowd the riders and get in their direct path - what are the fans’ mindsets? Do they just want to get on TV? Do they enjoy being as close to the action as possible? Do they genuinely think they’re motivating the riders? Are they not serious fans and just drunk? And I’m not talking about the seriously unruly fans who actually make contact with riders and lead the UCI to make a statement from time to time. Even just tunneling the riders, stepping out in front of them, and running along with them is incredibly annoying to me. Can someone help my simple American brain understand the allure of getting within 6 inches of the riders vs standing 6 feet away on the curb? Or tell me if I’m just a hater who’s (admittedly) never attended a world tour event in person, and doesn’t get it? submitted by /u/brm312 [link] [comments]
