Steve Coogan has spoken out about Helena Bonham Carter’s stay at The White Lotus being cut short , with the star admitting that it wasn’t “working”. Bonham Carter – who was set to star alongside Coogan in the HBO drama’s forthcoming series – left the show just one week into filming in April after finding that her character “did not align” with the story once on set. The British actor, 59, was later replaced by Laura Dern , who made a brief cameo in the second season. Speaking out about the last-minute cast change at the Bafta TV Awards on Sunday (10 May), Coogan said that the story went in a “different direction”.
