“He’s very good at what he does,” says the legendary drummer on the other end of the video call, emphasizing each word. “And so am I.”  The “he” who the drummer says is very good at what he does is the go-to Americana producer T Bone Burnett. The drummer is Sir Ringo Starr, the same Ringo Starr, incidentally, who once sang a song written for him by John Lennon, called “I’m the Greatest.” Hey, it ain’t braggin’ if you can do it.  What Ringo Starr can do nowadays is a lot like what he’s been able to do for years. His long-running All-Starr Band roadshow, for instance, in which he and band members such as Toto’s Steve Lukather and Men at Work’s Colin Hay take turns playing their own and each other’s hits, remains a must-see, feel-good attraction. And what Burnett can do nowadays—bring out the best in, or at least another side of, whomever he’s producing—isn’t that new either.…
