Millions of rail passengers will be affected by Network Rail engineering work over the two May bank holidays. From Saturday 2 May to Monday 4 May, a key stretch of the East Coast Main Line will be closed in North Yorkshire. As a result, a journey from Newcastle to London King's Cross that normally takes under three hours will be extended to nearly five. Elsewhere, Liverpool’s main station, Lime Street, will be closed completely on Sunday and Monday. Between Manchester and Leeds, cross-Pennine links will be disrupted. And in London, the key rail terminus of Charing Cross will close from the last trains on Friday to the first on Tuesday morning. The final weekend of May will see even more disruption. The East Coast Main Line and cross-Pennine disruption will be repeated. In addition the main England-Wales rail link will close – all the way through until 8 June. And the key Thameslink north-south route through London will be closed.…
