Playing the “what if” game Worry thrives in uncertainty, and these days, there’s plenty of it. But this isn’t new. For much of human history, worry has stemmed from the unknown of the endless “what ifs” we ask ourselves. How often do you play the “what if” game? Many participate so often that they become addicted. The game goes like this: What if I lose my job? What if I can’t pay my bills? What if my car breaks down? What if I get sick? What if my spouse leaves me? What if there is a nuclear war? What if the world ends? What if I don’t go to heaven? And on it goes. Endlessly. The slope is slippery, and the trap is deep.
