The Independent reports live from Downing Street as defiant Starmer pledges not to quit Sir Keir Starmer has told his Cabinet he “will not quit” despite mounting calls for his resignation. During a meeting of his top team on Tuesday morning, the Sir Keir told ministers he would not stand down and urged them to back him amid what has been seen as the biggest crisis of his premiership. It comes after at least four members of his top team urged him to resign, including home secretary Shabana Mahmood. The first minister also resigned from Sir Keir Starmer’s government on Tuesday morning. Junior minister Miatta Fahnbulleh said on Tuesday she had stood down and called for Sir Keir to lay out a timetable for an “orderly transition”. There is mounting speculation Wes Streeting is planning to launch a coup. The health secretary’s camp is remaining silent, but Labour sources have told The Independent that the health secretary is now expected to launch a leadership bid on Tuesday.…
