Alzheimer’s disease and dementia — conditions that fundamentally involve the loss of one’s sense of identity and sense of time and place — are distinctly terrifying compared to physical ailments. They rob a person and their loved ones of what should be a special period of their lives. After all, Americans are living longer than ever . It’s only natural that we want to be as present as we can be to enjoy it.
