Emergency services are at the scene of a three-vehicle crash that has closed State Highway 6 at Makarewa tonight. 

A police spokesperson said the crash was first reported at about 6.40pm and has resulted in SH6 / Winton Lorneville Highway being blocked in both directions between Flora Road West and Orion Road. 

"Moderate and minor injuries are reported, with ambulance services on scene," the spokesperson said.  

"Motorists should avoid the area as emergency services work to clear the area." 

Diversions are in place but are only suitable for light vehicles.

The public should expect delays.
