Southland club rugby takes the weekend off

Southland Southland Express The opening day of duck-shooting season was the main event for Southland club rugby players last weekend. The premier grade and all 16 teams in divisions two and three took the week off after having played three games each in the first phase of the competition. The eight teams in the division one Ack Soper Shield competition did play their round five games on Thursday night. Wyndham preserved their unbeaten record, winning 28-19 on home ground against near neighbours Edendale. Waikiwi beat Albion 47-12 at the Gore Showgrounds, while the Waikaka-Riversdale Vikings beat Tokanui 28-19 at Waikaka. Tokanui are yet to register a win this season. Riverton has now won four of their first five games after a 23-20 win on their home ground against Pioneer. Riverton has a good chance to earn their fifth win when they play at Tokanui on Saturday. Pioneer is set for a tough game against Edendale in Gore, while Albion will host the Vikings across town at the showgrounds.…
