I tried the Android 17 beta, and it proved Google needs to kill its annual update cycle

I delight in looking at the phone market from as many angles as possible, and while my opinions may be odd, at times, they're always from the heart as much as the head.  I have a background in the mobile accessories world, which explains my odd enthusiasm for cases and things that clip onto smartphones.  I worked for Digital Trends from 2017 to 2025 . Android 17 is almost here. The stable, released version of this year's Android operating system is expected to arrive in June or July, with Google Pixel phones, as always, being the first to benefit from Google's latest software. But I wasn't surprised, nor was I disappointed. This is becoming a common occurrence, and it's made me wonder whether Google should abandon annual updates altogether.…
