Ofcom has levied a record £950,000 fine against the provider of an online suicide forum, marking the largest penalty of its kind under the country's online safety laws. The substantial fine from the communications regulator was imposed for hosting illegal content readily accessible within the UK. Ofcom , which announced its decision on Wednesday, opted not to name the forum or its operator due to the sensitive nature of the material. The regulator revealed the service has been linked to more than 130 deaths across Britain and cited in several coroners' reports. The watchdog confirmed the forum contained content actively encouraging or assisting suicide – a criminal offence in Britain.
