A pilot and co-pilot were killed and more than 40 people injured when an Air Canada passenger plane collided with a fire truck on a LaGuardia Airport runway late Sunday, officials have said. The plane, a Jazz Aviation flight operating on behalf of Air Canada, struck a Port Authority vehicle that was responding a separate incident around 11:40 p.m., according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. There were 72 passengers and four crew on board Flight 8646 and Port Authority Executive Director Kathryn Garcia told a news conference early Monday that 41 people were treated for injured in local hospitals, some of them serious. So far 32 have been released from hospitals. Two other people, a sergeant and an officer, have broken limbs and are in stable condition, according to preliminary information from two sources with knowledge of the investigation.
