As a runner, I’ve been lucky enough to have small ear canals that usually hold a pair of earbuds in place as I run and work out, so I’ve never really needed to use ear hooks. (Or even need a separate pair of running buds from daily drivers.) And I’ve always considered that to be a freeing proposition: The moment you start using earhooks, you become restricted to a smaller set of ‘buds, most of which are purpose-made for exercise and thus possibly not delivering top-tier audio. The only indication I’d ever received to the contrary from my friends and fellow audio reviewers has been Beats’ and Apple’s Powerbeats Pro , which supposedly sounded great and were shockingly comfortable for a pair of earbuds that sidles over the top of your earlobe to hold itself in place.
