Struggling to see the positives of the job right now This term has been the toughest yet in 10 years teaching. I’ve seen a dramatic drop off in student attendance, participation, student leadership in my areas. Students have decided my classes are low to lowest on their priority list and make it known to others. They frequently complain about activities and opportunities that in the past were the whole draw of our programs. They complain about everything, they can’t take constructive criticism even though I make an attempt to shower them with praise over anything I can. They don’t appreciate small acts of kindness, and I’ve been met with more head scratching student reviews stating that “I don’t know what I’m doing” or worse this year than in my entire career. Except nothing has changed on my end…I’ve put in a lot of work in my classes and student relationships and feel completely perplexed.…
