Bumper lying in road leads cops to crashed car full of weapons

A slam-fire shotgun, a homemade taser, ammunition and a large knife were all found in the crashed car of an alleged drunk Dunedin driver. The incident unfolded at 11.54pm yesterday when police received reports of a crash in Gloucester St, Andersons Bay, Acting Senior Sergeant Iain Notman said. The vehicle driven by the 42-year-old was speeding very fast down the residential street before it crashed into a power pole and ended up down a driveway. When police arrived, they found a front bumper lying in the road and saw skid marks in the street. Following the tracks, they soon located the bumper-less car sitting at the end of a home’s driveway with its owner standing next to the door. Officers had the person undergo a breath screening test, which they failed, and when they then required them to undergo an evidential breath test, the person refused. They then walked away, hopped into their crashed car, closed the door and refused to get out.…
