F IRST, There was of course the basics: reading, writing and arithmetic. But they were taught more thoroughly then than they are now. Learning didn’t end when the school bell rang at the end of classes. Parents then took over and continued their children’s education at home so they learned how to better apply what they had learned academically. Schooling was viewed very conscientiously as very necessary. S ECOND, America viewed its existence as unique in the world. Most other countries didn’t even approach what we had here in the form of opportunities, choices, development and advancement.…
