A carload of Dunedin teenagers were apprehended during a slow-speed chase in a stolen vehicle after being on the run for over a day. The four teenagers had been on a 36-hour campaign of chaos around the city starting on Monday by allegedly committing multiple petrol drive-offs in a stolen Nissan Qashqai, Acting Senior Sergeant Iain Notman, of Dunedin, said. The CCTV at two Dunedin petrol stations CCTV showed the four youth offenders in the stolen vehicle. By 4.30pm yesterday, the teenagers were reported to police once again, by multiple different people, for tailgating, braking erratically, and for general poor driving behaviour. Officers located the car and its occupants in North Rd. While a unit followed the car from a safe distance, units further north set up resources to safely stop the vehicle. ‘‘The vehicle was successfully and safely stopped using a tyre deflation device known as spikes on State Highway 1 in the Waitati area,’’ Snr Sgt Notman said.
