While headline sales rose 0.5% as expected, this marked a deceleration from March’s 1.6% surge.
The year-over-year percent change provides another perspective on the historical trend. Current retail sales are up 4.9% compared to one year ago.
Core sales were up for an eleventh straight month in April, rising 0.7%. This was down from the 1.9% spike in March and was consistent with the forecast.

According to the Census Bureau’s Advance Retail Sales Report, consumer spending climbed for the third consecutive month in April. While headline sales rose 0.5% as expected, this marked a deceleration from March’s 1.6% surge. Since these figures are
