I’m sure it’ll be busier than normal, but I’m wondering, is this one of the parks you should avoid at all costs on a holiday weekend? We’re looking to camp down in Kings Canyon proper (not just the Grant Grove that you pass through on your way to Sequoia). We’re coming from Sacramento so we’d want to spend a long weekend to make the most of the 5 hour drive. Obviously holiday weekends allow for that while not having to take a day off of work, but we’re not against doing so if it’s highly recommended to avoid a holiday.
