This cool, rainy kick we’ve been on for the majority of the week is about to reach a dramatic conclusion Friday and Saturday as thunderstorms descend on Western Washington. Rain showers are already giving Friday a wet start, but they’ll increase in the afternoon as a very cold air loft comes in, destabilizing the atmosphere, said National Weather Service meteorologist Dana Felton. Expect thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening both Friday and Saturday, Felton said. They could bring brief heavy downpours, small hail and of course, lightning. “It’s not a good day to be out on the lake in your boat,” Felton said.
