(File Photo) A fortnight after bird flu (avian influenza) was first detected at Navapur in Maharashtra’s Nandurbar district, officials from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying identified two more poultry farms reporting unusual chicken deaths, with samples testing positive for the virus. “Both farms where samples tested positive are located within a 3-km radius of the original farm where avian influenza was initially detected. We have remained on high alert, and nearly four lakh chickens have been culled so far,” an official said. Dr Sanjay Khachane, District Deputy Commissioner, Animal Husbandry and Dairy, Nandurbar, told The Indian Express close to four lakh chickens had been culled, apart from destroying more than 22 lakh eggs and feed worth over Rs 5 lakh.…
