Davina McCall opens up on emotional parenting mistake that brought back painful past

01:41

Davina McCall fought back tears as she spoke of a past parenting blunder which recalled painful childhood memories.

Appearing on Marisa Peer’s podcast Your Mind, Your Rules, the presenter detailed her complicated relationship with her own mother, who never returned after going on a two-week skiing trip to France.

McCall said she once had a panic attack when she was an hour late to collect daughter Tilly, now 22, from nursery and learnt she had been taken home by a friend’s parent instead.

“I sat in the car and started crying, and couldn’t drive, I couldn’t see. I had to just get it out.” McCall said. “I felt like this was how I used to feel with my own mother.”

“She was ok because she wasn’t you, she wasn’t abandoned by her mother, but you felt it because you had felt it,” explained Peer.
