FIFA president reaffirms Iran will play in men's World Cup, Seattle

VANCOUVER, B.C. — Standing at the lectern inside the Vancouver Convention Centre, the president of FIFA reiterated again Thursday that Iran will play in the upcoming men’s World Cup even as their delegation did not attend this week’s FIFA Congress. FIFA President Gianni Infantino began his address to the 210 out of 211 delegations in attendance that the one missing delegation would see its team play in the World Cup — including the June 26 match in Seattle against Egypt. “I should say, confirming straight away for those who maybe want to say something else or want to write something else, that of course is Iran will be participating at the FIFA World Cup 2026, and of course, Iran will play in the United States of America,” Infantino said. “And the reason for that is very simple, dear friends, is because we have to unite.
