Aripiprazole (Abilify) I just wanted to share my experience taking Aripiprazole aka Abilify in case it is helpful to someone else who is struggling with weight loss. I started taking this medication 11 years ago to help me with my mood during a divorce. It's a truly wonderful medication that got me through some hard times. HOWEVER I did not realize it, but I believe I began gaining weight as a direct result of this medication. It was insidious and slow. Maybe a half a pound a month. When I realized I was gaining weight, I hit the gym, started to diet, tried some things that my body had previously been responsive to, and what really shocked me is that I could maintain my weight (with great effort), but nothing I did would make the weight come off. Over those 11 years I gained 70'ish pounds.
