But what is it, and does it actually work? Often presented as a simple way to deal with narcissistic, abusive or toxic behavior, the technique is straightforward: make yourself as uninteresting as a gray rock. Respond in a neutral, minimal and emotionally flat way, particularly in interactions marked by conflict, criticism, or provocation. Despite its popularity, there is no direct scientific research evaluating whether the gray rock method is effective.
