Published 12:30 pm Wednesday, May 27, 2026 Just about everywhere right now in Central Oregon, you can see the telltale signs of summer’s return, even in your neighborhood grocery store: Other shoppers standing sunburned in their shorts and tank tops, jaws slightly agape, right at the end of an aisle, effectively blocking it, their cart full of indulgent foods and drinks, their eyeballs scanning for the next item on their list, hoping to comprehend the strange layout of a place you could do a week’s worth of shopping in with your eyes closed. Out on the roads, it’s the same thing: They’re trying to yield to you in roundabouts, they’re making crazy U-turns in places no sane driver would, and only signaling when they’re circling left in a roundabout. Welcome back, tourists. Locals: A gentle reminder that when the going gets crowded, patience is advisable.
