A Suffolk Superior Court judge today sentenced Gerald Vick Jr., 33, to life in prison following his convictions for being a habitual offender who opened fire as part of a gun battle across Talbot Avenue that sent eight people, including an 11-year-old, to the hospital early on Aug. 26, 2023 as the J'Ouvert parade was passing nearby, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports. After Judge Sarah Ellis ruled that Vick would be eligible for possible parole after 15 years. On April 22, a Suffolk Superior Court jury convicted Vick of unlawful possession of a firearm, second offense, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm and possession of a large-capacity feeding device. The jury deadlocked on other charges. On Wednesday, another jury convicted him of one count of possession of a machine gun; this morning, it declared him a habitual offender.
