Sorry to rant, but I have nobody that understands why I'm in mourning for my family's topsoil, which I built up by mowing for 5 years. In February, 2 acres were bulldozed, scraped away, and pushed to the walls of the property at my MIL's request. She's getting older and rushed to plant the land. The bare, dry soil was then tilled and planted with a diversity of lovely hardwood saplings and grafted fruit trees. About 200 or so (maybe more as they are only 3-4 meters apart). They've been meticulously watered by a single worker and kept alive until recent rains. They are surviving and the family is patting themselves on the back. Issues I worry about are the flooding our house during rainy season and the saplings not getting fully established when they hit the hardpan. Weeds are starting to jump up and might tower over them. I put my foot down when they tried using an herbicide on the whole 2 acres (on aggressive weeds/vines during rains...).…
