Hordes of bargain-hunting bookworms descended on St Joseph’s School’s book fair in Queenstown at the weekend.
The annual book sale has long been the resort town’s largest and Sunday’s was no exception.
Principal Allan Grant said the sale had about 10,000 second-hand books spread across four classrooms of the school’s Beetham St campus.
It raised about $30,000, which would go towards school camps and learning support.
The event was run by about 100 helpers throughout the day, made up of PTA members and parents, Mr Grant said.
As well as thousands of cheap books, there were stalls selling food, home baking, coffee, plants and used clothing.
There was live entertainment and auctioning of prizes donated by businesses to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars.
All books sold for either $1 each, $10 for a bag or $20 for a box.
