Before he pioneered paddling Peah'i, Ian Walsh was famously the valedictorian of King Kekaulike High School. Sharp as a razor with a wit to match, when he was only 21 years old, he saw the trajectory of his career and immediately wanted to give back to the Maui community that had given him so much. Hosting his first Menehune Mayhem event for kids back in 2004 when he was only 21 years old, last weekend the 22nd iteration of the grom-focused beach party and comp just went down at Ho‘okipa Beach Park. Since 2018, Walsh's Menehune Mayhem Foundation has awarded local students $178,750 in scholarships to help them continue chasing their dreams. As stated, the mission of the program is to "elevate the potential and well-being of youth through surf- focused activities that promote academic success, healthy lifestyles, and lifelong environmental stewardship."
