Calabria sits at the southernmost point of the Italian peninsula. The foot of the boot, if you will. Framed by two seas—the Tyrrhenian to the west and the Ionian to the east—this gem of a region is defined by picturesque coastlines, mountainous interiors, and towns that feel refreshingly untouched by mass tourism. Compared to Italy’s more famous destinations, life here isn’t designed for spectacle or catering to tourists. It’s a little rough around the edges, but it’s undoubtedly my favorite place in the world. I’ve made a point to return to this part of Italy year after year due to family ties (my dad is from Catanzaro) and my natural adoration of the region. For me, Calabria has always felt really grounded—it’s not curated, it’s far less commercial than other areas in Italy, and it’s more revealing the longer you stay. It’s a place where meals run long, and beaches are chosen by word of mouth. There’s no performance for the outside world, and that's exactly what makes it so compelling.…
