Starting pay for merit apprentice/helper Hey all thanks in advance for any replies. I’m trying to get into the field. I live in PA where there’s no official journeyman license so it’s kinda the Wild West. I did the CourseCareers.com course and got the tools. Starting to reach out to contractors to see if they’re hiring helpers/apprentices. I talked to this dude yesterday and he told me they start helpers at $12.50 and don’t even pay 1.5x for overtime “cause it’s voluntary.” This is total bullshit right? I knew I’d be making shit money at first but like they’re not even gonna pay for me to take night classes or anything. Everywhere I see online says most apprentices start at around $20. I’m in Philly and yes I know the IBEW here pays great but I’m not a nepo baby and have no real experience so I’m not counting on getting in (super competitive here). So like is that what I should expect or can I tell this guy to eat shit?…
