A day after polling in 152 seats in the first phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections registered the highest-ever turnout, at about 92.9%, all eyes are now on the 142 seats scheduled for voting in the second and final phase on April 29. These 142 seats are considered the incumbent Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC)’s core stronghold spread over south Bengal and Kolkata district. The record voter turnout in the first phase, Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed, “put a seal on… the wave of change that had been visible in Bengal for a long time”.
