Just like there are many paths to becoming a New Yorker, there are many ways to have fun here. A morning at one of many excellent museums—I’m partial to smaller, more specific establishments like The Noguchi Museum or Neue Galerie. An afternoon eating your way through the smorgasbord of Jackson Heights’ South Asian restaurants. A stroll along the boardwalk of Coney Island, home to fried clam strips, candy apples, Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs—and the Thunderbolt. The perfect sunset over Lower Manhattan’s skyline, seen from Brooklyn Bridge Park (made sweeter if you first walk over the bridge). A bike ride through Red Hook with its waterfront warehouses and artist studios, punctuated with a beer at Sunny’s. But where to start? I’m often asked by visitors for my firm favorites, and I always ask in return: Where are you staying? Or which part of the city do you want to orbit?
