Stephen Colbert Just Slammed The “Super Stupid” Reason For Trump’s Potential Iran War Rename
The Late Show host wasn’t convinced by the logic.
The Late Show host Stephen Colbert on Wednesday mocked reports the Pentagon may rename Donald Trump’s Iran war in the event that the current precarious ceasefire collapses. “Operation Epic Fury” may be rebranded as “Operation Sledgehammer,” Colbert noted.
“Get ready! Because this is super stupid,” Colbert teed up his audience for the explanation.
“You see, the 1973 War Powers Resolution requires Congress to authorize military action within 60 days,“ Colbert said, citing NBC News. “Because we have now passed that 60-day deadline, the administration believes replacing the name could allow Trump to argue that it restarts the clock.”
“Oh yeah, totally new war,” Colbert sarcastically snarked.
