A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after five people were struck by a car in a town centre in Nottinghamshire, police have said. One man suffered life-threatening injuries and remains critically ill in hospital while four other men sustained less serious injuries after the incident in Arnold shortly before 1.10am on Saturday. Nottinghamshire police said it was believed the car, a red Vauxhall Astra, was driven at the group after an altercation in the town centre a short time earlier. A 40-year-old man was detained and remains in custody, the force added. Police said the driver abandoned the car and fled the scene on foot, adding counter-terrorism officers were not involved in the investigation and there was “no indication of any ongoing threat to the wider public”.
