You could be excused for thinking that luxury design and a zoo’s worth of animals don’t exactly go together. After you’ve laid the custom carpet, picked out the plushest upholstery for that sofa, and added in a few pieces of priceless artwork, do you really want to invite an animal into the mix? Surprisingly, many of the celebrities who’ve shared their homes in AD’s Open Door tours might just shout, “Yes!” For many in these animal-friendly open doors, the inclusion of a creature or two is indicative of the overall attitude of their home: They live in family spaces that are ready to absorb whatever damage kids or animals might throw at it. For others, animals might be confined to a certain space, allowing investment furniture pieces to escape unscathed from any unwanted scratch marks or stains.
