LAKEWOOD – Emerson Johnson set the season’s tone with the first jump of the season. The Widefield senior carried it into his final performance on Thursday. Johnson captured the 4A triple jump title at the Colorado Track and Field State Championships, jumping a personal-best 45-foot-10.5 to fly past Miley Davis of Skyline by 1.25 inches. “Honestly, this was not expected,” said Johnson, who will jump next year for Colorado Mesa University. “Today I was just coming in looking to compete, really. I wasn’t expecting to win it. “The results speak for themselves.” The results have been talking all season. Johnson began triple-jumping as a sophomore but was well out of a state qualifying spot. Last year he was injured and came to state but finished well off the podium in 17 th . He refocused in the club season and opened his senior campaign by hitting 45-5.75 on March 14 at the Harrison Panther Invite. It placed him atop the state standings until Davis overtook the mark in late April.…
