Hey all, I’m still fairly new to baitcasters. I originally bought a Shimano DC reel to make things easier, starting with a Curado DC before upgrading to a Metanium DC for the smoother feel, comfort, and supposed performance gains. A few issues have me questioning whether it’s the right reel for me: Finish durability For a premium reel, I’m disappointed with how quickly the finish is showing wear. I understand reels get used, but after only about a month of careful ownership, I expected better. Backlashes vs. distance The main reason I bought a DC reel was for added forgiveness. Unfortunately, I’m still getting fairly consistent backlashes unless I really baby my casts. When I do that, I feel like I’m giving up a lot of distance. Most casts are in the 30–50 foot range, and maybe 80 feet if I really get hold of one and everything goes right. If I turn the DC brake up to the maximum setting, the backlashes mostly disappear.…
