Published 4:05 pm Wednesday, May 6, 2026 A fire Wednesday afternoon in an home on NW Florida Avenue built in 1925 in Bend was quickly put out, but the home remains uninhabitable. Smoke and flames could be seen from the back of the house. The fire started in the exterior of the house, moving up the wood siding to the eaves and into the attic space. Oily rags were improperly disposed of after a project and caused the fire. The Red Cross is providing help for the two adults and two dogs who lived in the house. Oily rags should be laid out flat far from combustibles and structures. When they are dry, place them in a metal can with a water and detergent solution and put the lid on tightly.
