Brent Headrick did not want to know how good he has been.

Wednesday he said he was OK not knowing his exact numbers regarding stranding inherited runners, perhaps superstitious or wary of the statistic becoming wedged in his mind.

Understandable. But fans should know that entering play, no pitcher in baseball had been better at entering jams and escaping them. The Yankees lefty was the only pitcher in the majors who had been brought into games with at least 13 runners on base and had allowed none to score.

Tuesday, Headrick was put to the test once more, manager Aaron Boone calling on him after Elmer Rodríguez loaded the bases with two outs in the fifth inning of a tie game.
