should I reopen negotiations after HR basically closed the conversation? I’m in a bit of a tricky spot and would appreciate objective input. I’m currently in an investment role. I have an expected merit increase (~6–7%) effective soon and a promotion likely later this year (~10–15%). My current setup is stable with strong benefits (30 days leave, training/education support, etc.). I received an external offer: Senior Manager title Initially ~15% increase → negotiated to ~25% Smaller / less stable platform I told them my expectation was ~35–40% given: I’m leaving a stable environment I’m giving up upcoming increases I’m taking on more risk HR said: 25% is already a stretch Going above ~30% is very difficult due to internal parity In the last call, I reiterated my range (35–40%) and he basically ended the conversation with “good luck” (which felt like a polite close due to misalignment, not sure if it was a close or testing me?)
