Trying to understand my taste in Bach Bach is one of my favourite composers, but I'm trying to understand why I don't like some of his works. I love pretty much all of his solo instrument music (cello suites, violin sonatas and partitas) but not the organ works - probably because I don't like the organ. I also like the accompanied violin sonatas, viola da gamba etc. The well tempered clavier is phenomenal, as are the Goldbergs and any solo keyboard music, especially played on piano but I like a few harpsichord recordings too. I love the art of the fugue, and parts of the musical offering. I love some of his cantatas. I am slowly appreciating the big choral works like Mass in B minor and St Matthew Passion. But these are uneven to me, parts of them remind me of the Brandenburg Concertos, which I do not like at all. There's a certain 'fussiness' to Bach that I hear in some of his orchestral writings especially those in a major key.…
