Most of this year's capital went toward Alphabet's Waymo, which raised $16B in February. AV analysts told Business Insider that the funding concentration reflects a maturing industry. The Autonomous Vehicle sector this year has seen some of the largest venture capital backing in more than 10 years, all of which has gone toward fewer competitors. Barely halfway through the second quarter, the AV industry has seen nearly $19 billion in VC funding worldwide as of April, PitchBook data provided to Business Insider showed.
